The Balcony Cafe

As I find myself yearning for light and open spaces with the advent of Spring, I suggest to my intrepid side kick, Mr.T.,that we meet at the third floor Balcony Cafe at the National Museum Of Scotland on Chambers Street, Edinburgh. Opting for the barometer of an Americano accompanied by a homemade slice of chocolate brownie I am entering familiar ground. The coffee is "black, strong and made this year" (one of my favourite film noir quotes) and hits the right notes whilst the brownie is a perfectly moist, generous portion which would satisfy any lover of the cocoa bean. However, I am more taken by the light and space provided by the high, glassed over ceiling which has frequently drawn me back to this unique space situated in my favourite (and our kids) museum.

In the instagrammed world of the twenty first century, the ambience and situation of the modern cafe/restaurant are frequently overlooked in the desperate search for the perfect shot of what is about to be consumed.
